Bees – 29/5/2021
Siobhan and I on Wednesday removed the empty feeders. Each colony has had a 1 kg boost of sugar. We transferred the swarm colony from its nucleus to a brood box. These bees have made good progress in making comb and the queen has started to lay. We didn’t merge our two weaker colonies as planned. The bees in what was the weakest colony seem to have benefited from the feed boost and I’m having second thoughts about merging it into another colony. Not for the first time the beekeeper is being outwitted by a bunch of insects! We will check the hives over on Saturday at 2:00pm and reassess. All welcome. I have spare bee suits for anyone who needs to borrow one but you will need to come with a pair of marigolds or other gloves.
